Artist statement
An abstract expressionist oil painting in a style I call "evocative abstract". A sense of quiet, gentle clarity is built up through mark making and a finessed colour palette - in combination with oil sticks and graphite. There is a soft, transparent quality that is usually associated with aquarel. Sand and impasto give subtle plasticity and extra dimension to her work.
I draw on themes such as silence and the “poetry of just being” (inspired by the likes of Pessoa and Pasternak) - ideas made emotion, to be expressed by texture and rhythm. Purely abstract, the painting evokes feelings, memories and images - stimulating their recall to the conscious mind.
