Artist statement
Back in the early 2000s I was making grid paintings that I thought I would begin to post.
These paintings begin with a thick white oil paint that was troweled over the canvas, like cake icing, then scored with a stick. After drying, color was added to the cells. Here because of the suggested perspective of the horizontal lines I thought I would make the coloration allude to light and shadow. I hope you enjoy the experience of the light brightening towards the left opening out into the sunlight.
