ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The meaning of this painting is: Love is sacrifice. The bleeding and sacrificial love of the swan represents the spiritual awakening of the woman and represents her past, present and future possibilities. The woman has lost her innocence and as a result, the swan is bleeding. The red colour is symbolic of blood, love and sacrifice. The bleeding symbolizes the sacrifice of the swan to regain what she had lost. The underlying shine of the silver colours symbolizes the purity of the swan. It has no need to sacrifice itself, but it chooses to do so.
WHAT IS COLD WAX PAINTING
Cold Wax Painting is a painting technique that is used to create artwork with oil paint. It is also called "Wax Painting" or "Cold Oil Painting."
The artist first draws the design on the canvas, using inks. Then applies thin layers of cold wax mixed with oil over the entire surface of the canvas. Next, she paints in the colours using thicker mixtures of cold wax and oil paints. Finally, after the painting has been completed, the painting is hand waxed and polished to protect it from dirt and damage.
The benefits of this technique are that it does Each layer becomes a unique moment that reflects the light from above and also allows it to penetrate into the hidden layers beneath. The medium in itself feels like smooth skin when touched. In that way, the painting becomes alive under the touch of the human hand, and more layers get revealed through the heat of the body infiltrating the canvas.
The disadvantages are that it can be difficult to erase mistakes and there's no way to add more layers once you've finished your work. It is a very expensive and time-consuming technique
