Artist statement
Inspired by Mid-Century Modern design, this piece is wheel thrown and hand pierced stoneware with a black satin glaze. Small holes are created when the clay is still wet and then each hole is painstakingly enlarged and smoothed when the clay is bone dry. The interplay of light and shadow, color and form complements any urban, contemporary or transitional space. It is stunning on its own as an art piece, but it also comes to life with a candle in it. Throwing patterns of light and shadow onto the table and surrounding walls it can illuminate an evening dinner party outdoors.
