Artist statement
In this piece, Pauwels is depicting the loneliness of grieve or waiting for someone who is not coming anymore. Light and shadow are becoming more and more prominent features in her recent work, to create a certain atmosphere.
Placing her figures in empty spaces, she wants to emphasize on the exhausting feeling to be in a long-term state of limbo, not knowing the outcome or length of time waiting.
The work ships in a wooden crate and is ready to hang. Avoid hanging it in areas of high humidity and direct sunlight.
