About the art
Artist statement
Atavistic Valley is a large original abstract acrylic painting on panel signed by California artist Marlene Struss, protected with satin polymer varnish, wired, cradled in stained wood and ready to hang in your home or office. The predominant colors are blue and pale orange with shimmers of lavender, pink and green in the atmosphere. With its lack of human artifacts, the imagery suggests geologic formations, mountains, and valleys from an aerial perspective at early night. The center of the painting is the darkest spot, a place you would expect to experience resurgent phenomena from prehistoric times that may involve extraterrestrial visitors or landings. The ambiguity of the layers of paint contribute to the aura of mystery that shrouds the painting.
