About the art
Artist statement
A young woman looks at us - maybe a bride? The very mattered texture of the background contrasts with the face which is slightly blurred. Oil and wax paint on wood cradeled panel. Ready to hang, signed on the bottom left, dated and signed on the back. The work will be carefully packed and sent with its certificate of authenticity.
Marta Grassi is a Uruguayan artist living in France. His work is imbued with the imagery of South America and the magical realism of his literature, populated by imaginary characters. These women, shamans, fairies or witches are strong and powerful and appear to us in an environment just evoked, going towards abstraction. They stare at the spectator and seem to interpose him. The viewer is free to question the intention of this gaze on him.
