ERUPTION I
Martin Ecker's abstract paintings seem to capture the endless pursuit of their own source of power rather than any deep, eternal meaning. They engage in a constant proliferation of affective intensities and vibrating traces. Real silver, real gold, false silver, false gold dissolve in their imitation to form rhythmically shimmering colour landscapes pulsating with nuanced gradations, scorchings and abrasions. The physicality of the coagulated colour requires tactile vision. But there is also a philosophical thrill built into the abstraction, space and time, the unstoppable change through purposefully applied oxidations resonate in these colour fields that represent a kind of collective subconscious that Ecker himself wants to tame by giving his works titles. And so the value becomes a labyrinth, breaks through, breaks out of a larger theoretical background ....
