About the art
Artist statement
'Coral Ventricle' was selected to be part of the Ireland Glass Biennale 2019 exhibition in Dublin.
This work is inspired by the Swedish technique of Graal. Traditionally glass works using Graal are pictorial, illustrating a narrative or story. With this piece, I’ve used the technique in an abstract way creating a texture, and regular pattern. The cut shapes enhance the overall leaning biomorphic form, emphasizing its bulbousness. Through this technique I am able to examine the relationships between the positive and negative ground. The balance of transparency and opacity, and the effect of light being diffused through line, affects depth, and optical allusion.
