Artist statement
In lockdown I was able to procure chemicals and converted my bathroom into a mini darkroom. This led to an experimentation between cyanotype print and painting. My days had discipline again and the need to be in the studio didn't weigh as heavy. Through discovery and observation, cyanotype became a blueprint for my work. The big piles of delivery packaging had become my playground. Collecting bubble wrap, cardboard, recycled paper, and thermocol was an evening ritual from the day's delivery.
While working in a darkroom, placing of stencils/cardboard/objects is a blind process that requires trust and alertness yet the results are always unexpected. It is exciting; a waiting game to see a print develop the next day. Time for once is by my side and patience is key. What shows through more? The blue of the print or the colours of paint? Is there harmony between two mediums?
