About the art
Artist statement
Themes of nostalgia, memory around food, child like innocence is recurring within my canvas paintings. My studio is in my grandma’s house. How the light changes with the seasons, has a different affect on the mood, in bringing about certain emotions. Loose recipes, texture and colour make up the composition of my practice. There is a relationship between domestic spaces and feeling safe in an environment where women are present and prevalent. Food holds an important interaction between home and work; building community and support, two things that are very special in creating space and abundance. Nurturing recipes passed down through lineage helps anchor into my family systems. Encountering these systems helped confront my past and old patterns. Discerning the ones I don't want to repeat helps to move out of my comfort zone.
