Artist statement
Utsuroi 2015
This video artwork was created in collaboration with Mr. Ryuho Sasaoka, a leader of Mishoryu
Sasaoka, is one of the flower arrangement schools in Japan. Flowers arranged by him are put into
liquid nitrogen at a temperature of 200 degrees under zero and frozen like glass flowers.
Then they were broken by being hit with a small hard substance and its process was shot by a
high-speed camera. This video artwork expresses a beauty in the decay process and also the passage
of time.
