Currency #170 I`m Sorry, I`m Not From Here"

This piece belongs to the "Exchange Currency Series" created by me in 2023, starting from the concept of the "face" on coins. It is a unique work consisting of a meticulously crafted female portrait executed on a treated circular pine wood cut, created using mixed media techniques. Conceptually, the artwork is part of a project in which I, drawing from my own experience, explore the theme of foreignness and the sense of 'not being from here.' Furthermore, it connects with the experiences of others who have undergone the challenges of migration. In this case, the phrase inscribed on the piece is in German and translates to English as 'I'm sorry, I'm not from here.

While conventional coins have a fixed value and typically depict a national figure, my coins showcase anonymous faces and offer variable, often arbitrary, selling values. These coins can function both individually and as panels alongside others from the same series, allowing for the creation of installations as vast as desired.
