About the art
Artist statement
A domestic intimate scene between the virtual and the physical world. A portrayal of the impossibility to touch the ground.
This piece, which I also humorously call "Bacchus' Siesta," was born as a portrait of my partner during the days of confinement due to the pandemic in 2020 and was the first piece I completed in the series I titled "New Jungles." These works address themes such as disorientation and virtuality, and represent scenes in which the characters seem lost and absorbed. The degradation of the environment, the commodification of the planet's resources, and the replacement of communities with consuming individuals generate, as is well known, disorganized societies in which individuals become subjects without will, for whom stepping on solid ground and knowing where they are seems like an impossible mission. "Bacchus' Siesta" represents a salon scene immersed in a simulated natural space, in which the floral details of the traditional Moldovan carpet fade like pixels, and in which the evocation of the forest reveals the distance between the scene and the imagined nature. The two characters depicted in the work have complementary attitudes: one surrendered to sleep and the other connected to virtuality through a mobile device.
Currently, I am creating new pieces for this series in the same format, and I am accepting commissions in which the scenes are constructed starting from the portraits of the commissioners.
