Artist statement
Natsumi’s works come into being through a process of discovery and accumulation. Layers of paint, stitching and other adornments are built up over time, a ‘reverse excavation’ of forms that are revealed and concealed as they come into being. These free-floating paintings are paired with new experiments in cast metalwork, which function simultaneously as accessories and supports.
