Artist statement
This brick house is the last remnant of a farm. All that remains of the barn are a few stones from the foundation. Homes like this would've initially had an addition on the back for a woodshed, a summer kitchen, a living space, or a horse stable.
In 1995 a microburst storm came through Northern New York, felling old-growth trees and lifting homes and barns off their foundations. The storm was quick and destructive. This house had its roof blown off. In total, 700 homes in Lewis and Jefferson Counties were damaged.
What remains bears witness to and reminds us of the power of nature.
