The painting depicts a thundercloud that hangs over a calm river. The cloud occupies most of the canvas, it is dark and menacing. The river below him seems quiet and serene, its waters reflecting the bright sky. Silhouettes of trees are visible in the distance, which add depth and volume to the picture. This creates a contrast between danger and tranquility, which makes the picture very expressive and emotional.
