Mother's Gaze

My art practice is a journey of introspection and self-exploration where intimate experiences of womanhood, motherhood, and mental health are transformed into vivid, universal narratives.

Through ethereal psychological portraits, I reimagine personal experience merged with myth and archetype to reveal truths about the human psyche. Using my own image and the canvas as a mirror, I apply rich layers of oil paint and glazing techniques to echo the multiplicity of the female experience.

Using symbolic motifs such as veils, water, and blood, I examine the constant reshaping of the self in response to life’s challenges. Capturing both the emotional intensity and frailty of what it means to navigate life today.

My figurative paintings draw on historical and modern art influences, from Renaissance and Baroque masters such as Caravaggio’s and Peter Paul Rubens, to 19th C French and British realists William Bouguereau and Evelyn de Morgan as well as surrealists Dorothea Tanning and Leonor Fini.

Each piece becomes a form of visual alchemy, portraying personal pain, shame, fear and triumph with dignity. Challenging how societal norms and idealized portrayals of women have exhaustive effects on mental and physical wellbeing.
