About the art
Artist statement
Auville works with construction cement. Applying techniques used in the construction and ship building industries, he spreads the cement over high-density foam panels, creating pieces ranging in size from one to eight square meters.
Grey Graphite is a monochromatic puzzle of grey rectangles. It is inspired by the marks left by the skis on hard snow, just before it turns to ice. Why should snow be only white ?
Marks are printed into the cement just before it gets dry and hard, then later on polished and lightly varnished.
The particular shine of this artwork is due to graphite powder.
