Artist statement
This is a continuation of the batik series of paintings — Rebirth, Til Death do us Part and Mirror Mirror. The idea that culture serves as the immortal entity that resides in the morality of humans keeps us rooted to our fleeting time on earth, with the knowledge that there is a place we always return and revert to, no matter where we are. The use of batik and the passionate tones of red serve to heighten the intensity of the subjects of the painting, where their calm dispositions reinforce the embracing of the end of life.
