About the art
Artist statement
This is the first of a series Batik theme of sculptures by the artist. This sculpture seeks to exemplify the alluring nature of the intricate collaboration between the body and the soul that lurks all of us. The use of bright, batik fabric and the fluidity of the sculpture work hand-in-hand to create a marriage and harmony of the sacred and the sensual. The wrapping of the batik around the delicate contours of the female body symbolizes its role as the “skin” that latches onto our souls, with the strong calling for tradition in a time of modernity, pulling us back into our roots where we know, deep inside us, we belong.
