About the art
Artist statement
The shapes in The Call Series are inspired by the weathered karst limestone formations and caves in the landscape surrounding my studio. Multiple forces create changes to the stones over time leaving forms that can seem mysterious, precarious, fragile, impossible. Spaces with extraordinary forms of their own divide massive ridges and boulders and the light gets in. Then life moves in.
The three, free-standing parts of The Call VII can easily be turned, rearranged and spaced apart in new combinations to change the way light and space moves around, between and through them.
They are built from high-fired, layered clays with crackled porcelain on the surface. The given measurements describe the sections placed together in one of the smallest formations.
