About the art
Artist statement
Brugger has been experimenting for years with a self-developed wood pulp, which she elaborately produces from wood shavings and sawdust. Among other things, this is also the basic material for her objects. One of Brugger's intentions is to return the wood residues to their original form, the tree.
Trained sculptor Sandra Brugger models her "tree slices" layer by layer from wood pulp alternating with artists' acrylic paints.
Thus, as with a tree that is growing, she starts from the core inside and models the individual annual rings of the "tree" to the outside. An intensive process, since each layer is associated with a long drying time. Narrow, colored annual rings and wide annual rings of wood pulp, reflect the seasons of winter and summer.
"moonbow tree slice 23 carat" is a free interpretation of a moon rainbow, represented in the form of a tree slice, combined with a border of 23 carat gold leaf.
In the center of this freely designed wooden tree slice you will also find a "tree slice" made of wood shavings, sawdust and acrylic paints. This individual interpretation of a moon rainbow was previously made and then inserted. The cross-section of it shows the individual "annual rings", the lifelines of the tree. And makes the respective elaborately modeled layers visible.
Slice in the center: A total of 69 layers (paint layers 51 / wood mass layers 18).
Gilding of gold leaf ducat double gold 23 carats.
