About the art
Artist statement
One of Brugger's intentions is to return the wooden remnants to their original form, the tree.
"rainbow slice 2" is an individual interpretation of a rainbow, made from wood paste produced by the artist herself. For the tree slices, she first models a trunk layer by layer from wood paste alternating with artist's acrylic paints and then cuts up this work. As with a growing tree, she starts from the core on the inside and models the individual annual rings of the “tree” according to outwards.
This is an intensive process, as each layer takes a long time to dry. Narrow, colored annual rings and wide annual rings made of wood pulp, reflect the seasons of winter and summer.
This cross-section shows the individual elaborately modeled layers. It is reminiscent of a tree disc with the individual annual rings, the lifelines of the tree. Another intention is to return the leftover wood to its original form, the tree.
"rainbow slice 2" has a diameter of approx. 17.0 cm and a height of approx. 2.0 cm.
84 layers in total (color layers 61 / wood pulp layers 23).
The work of art is delivered protected in a self-made object frame made of linden oak.
