Artist statement
Part of a series called Small Ports and Sea Coves, made using pigments wihcich have a relationship to the south west coast of England. the theme of these works is obfuscation, and the telling of tales. The materials used are related to the South West Coast of England either because they have been traded through the ports there or are made of materials from the earth there, from ochre to madder and indigo to French ultramarine (manufactured from kaolin clay). These provide narratives of international links, and also in form question the romanticism of the mythology of piracy and smuggling. Unframed 120x150cm framed 130x160cm
