Artist statement
As an advocate of non-figuration that extends the concept of realism in painting beyond visual mimesis, SIO Montera's treatment of nominal elements in abstract space expands his modes of pictorial representation and the possibilities of recording the real. Consistent in his process of unpremeditated compositions, SIO continually explores how artmaking can impart meaning to human vulnerability and, as a result, make possible the empowerment of oneself.
