Artist statement
Untitled belongs to the series of works titled “Manhattan”. It was presented at the Pieridis Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece in 2002 and in various shows subsequently.
The source for its inspiration is the experience the New York, especially that of skyscraper windows lights at night. These works address the grid and its endless ability for playfulness. The underlying source for the paintings is the geometry of the vertical and horizontal grid used in weaving. The colors refer to impressions of city lights at night and mediterranean kilims.
