About the art
Artist statement
Untitled (Kontylies XXI) belongs to the series entitled “Kontylies” which was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete, Rethymnon in 2018, and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2020.
The term “kontylies” is used to describe musical sentences created by a lyra or a lute that compose rhythms in traditional Cretan music. It is also used to describe thin lines drawn with a paint brush. This series of paintings was created using compasses whose center is positioned outside the picture area, hence, the compositions are rhythmed with sections of circles. The works are characterized by intense warm oranges and reds, deep blacks, deep blues and greens.
Work dimensions 180 x 140 cm. Framed dimensions 185 x 145 cm.
