Artist statement
Locked down for a year now, we need to be able to see. During the Impressionist peak, painters were able to travel and draw. I decided to look for inspiration and felt Shimoda, a famous Japanese beach destination, in my mind. What is Shimoda? Nothing special. But it is everything special one can think of. Imagination needs to run it's full course so that we can look to better times ahead. I wanted to create desite, invitation and a goal. If you have travelled as much as I have, you will want to go to Shimoda. I broke with the tradition of elegamt sunsets and wild shores of Europe and America. In our time, fluidity and movement represent our hurried lives, set back temporarily by the pandemic.
