About the art
Artist statement
Affected by environmental issues around the world, the artist chose to tackle in this painting from 2011 one of the main problems, the oil spill. The Gulf war oil spill was one of the largest oil spills in history, resulting from the Gulf War in 1991. Inspired by this tragedy, the artist couldn’t but think of the oil and gas issue in Lebanon. With or without the presence of oil in Lebanon’s sea, the tragedy is and will remain here: polluted Mediterranean sea, social and political conflicts, people embarked in an old and sinking boat.
