Between Light and Shadows: Monochrome Series BLS022 BW: The Last Light of Summer
Archival pigment print on fine art paper
2016–2024
"In the stillness of fading warmth, the past clings to every shadow."
The Last Light of Summer captures the lingering trace of a season just past. Stacked chairs and still balconies overlook a quiet shoreline, as the Mediterranean heat fades into cooler air. This piece reflects the fleeting pause between seasons, where life lingers just beyond the frame.
The image is steeped in imperfection. Deep blacks, cream tones, and fragile textures emerge from the unpredictable nature of the wet collodion process. The emulsion settles unevenly, leaving behind spots, streaks, and darkened edges. These flaws are not mistakes but echoes of time, remnants of a process that resists control and embraces impermanence.
The blackened borders creep inward, blurring the edges of memory. This is not a photograph of a place but the feeling of a season slipping away. The heat, the noise, the movement, all reduced to stillness, waiting for the tide to return.
The Last Light of Summer invites viewers to reflect on transitions, on the quiet moments that exist between what has ended and what is yet to begin. It is a meditation on impermanence, memory and the beauty of time’s subtle passing.
