Artist statement
This is a sunrise photo of the ocean. I broke the photo apart into a simple grid of thirds and reassembled the parts. I picked up a color taken from the background of the main photo to use as a background color and another long narrow shape I picked up directly from the image and inverted. The horizon line is our first measurement of the planet. It provides balance, stability, and wonderment for what might lie beyond. Breaking it apart and reconstructing the scene tends to focus our attention on the axis of the picture.
