Artist statement
Many years ago, I began capturing images of hearts and heart-shaped objects I found randomly in my travels. I have hundreds of photographs of these “found hearts”. Recently, I thought of combining them with other background images I have collected over time. The final images come together aesthetically, the elements relating purely by matching color and form. I found this heart scribbled with pink chalk on the side of a black wall in New York. There was a drawing of a tiny heart drawn in one of the letters. Later I combined this image with a photo I took of a black street with pink chalk marks on it. The shadow of the sun helped tie the composition together.
