Artist statement
When I think of Nature in Florida, I think of the large variety of tropical plants and their symmetrical beauty. For this image of palm leaves, I photographed them to emphasize their balanced shape. The golden frond was a palm leaf in a state of decay as it transitioned from one stage of its life to another. This image is from my “Odyssey” portfolio series, which features scenes that have been broken apart and reassembled into an abstract interpretation of the subject with an underlying geometric structure reflecting our desire to mentally dig deep into the surface of our environment to find its meaning.
