About the art
Artist statement
I do a lot of photography in the western United States. The main sunrise scene for this image was taken in Canyonlands. I combined it with other western images I took on another trip I made to record ancient Native American rock art drawings. The ancient drawings combined with the stark western terrain makes me feel like I am talking across centuries to other who went before me in the beautiful land. This image is from my “Odyssey” portfolio series, which features scenes that have been broken apart and reassembled into an abstract interpretation of the subject with an underlying geometric structure reflecting our desire to mentally dig deep into the surface of our environment to find its meaning.
