Artist statement
This painting is a tribute to Gustav Klutsis. He was a pioneering Latvian photographer and a major member of the Constructivist avant-garde in the early 20th century. Klutsis worked in a variety of experimental media. I have been fascinated by Klutsis ’ constructive paintings and photomontages for several years. This painting has previously been featured in my solo exhibition at the Kemi Art Museum, Finland 2019 and in a solo exhibition at a private gallery in Rovaniemi, Finland 2020. The painting is done with watercolours, Japanese ink and collage technique on canvas.
