Artist statement
Feeling the movement of air like floating on a breeze. The painting features white gestural strokes that glide across the canvas slowly rising in a north westerly direction. Drifting over background shadows that contrast dark to light and lift from ground to sky. The gusts of wind carry the passing shifts of time while engaged in a state of flow.
The oil paint is applied with a palette knife to create flowing, textured curved lines. The impasto strokes, in short swirls, add weight to the unseen elements in our surroundings. Occasional sharp downward marks interrupt the smooth surface as flux, creating dynamic variations. Part of a series contemplating the air element, exploring its unseen forces and their effects on our environment.
