About the art
Artist statement
Strands of colour and broad strokes of white rise up on a graduated blue background in this painting. The curved marks form their own paths with an interplay of colours, travelling towards open space and lighter skies like a coming up for air.
Working in oil on canvas with a palette knife to build texture in the paint with gradual hues and layering. As well as drawing sgraffito lines to create a flow and movement across the surface.
Part of my series on the natural elements such as air and water inspiring the base colours and abstract motion of the matter. A dynamic balance of stillness and energy through a unique transfer of marks in the action of painting, to evoke an experience or create an atmospheric feel in the artwork.
