About the art
Artist statement
An escape from the square. I was mindful of this when I constructed this sculpture. An interesting aspect of making wall sculptures is how far from the conventional four sided art can one go.
This piece has forged its own path quite nicely, its kept itself true to originality yet I wanted to keep it grounded, so the burred oak ties back to nature.
The 'slabs' of oak and birch ply are connected by wood dowels that I've inserted and glued into the side of the 'slabs'.
I have installed a recessed keyhole slot on the back. The piece is ready to hang with just one screw in a wall. The keyhole hanging method also allows the piece to hang flush and secure to the wall.
I have signed and dated the artwork on the back.
