Winter Lotus Pond #1

I've always been attracted to the magical aquatic plant - Lotus, for its unique life cycle and the spiritual significance it holds in Asian cultures. The withered lotus carries more meaning than its blossoming in summer days. The plant begins to wither from autumn and people usually think it is "dead" in winter, but the majority of it still stands straight in water, with the dried leaves bending into water, which forms beautiful geometric shapes with its reflections in the tranquil pond.

This photograph was taken in a late afternoon during my trip in Heshun Old Town(和顺古镇) of China's Yunnan province in early 2023. To present it in a more painterly way, I changed the tone a bit and added some scratches/noises in editing. It may look quite chaotic, but there is natural order behind the chaos, there is new beginnings behind the wilting...If you happen to like this work, it means you find some qualities of yourself in it.
