About the art
Artist statement
The silverpoint drawings are based on landscapes found in Singapore, which the artist has visited. The themes of time, memory and recollection play a role in this two drawings which use the medium of silverpoint. Silverpoint is a medium with a long history; before the invention of the pencil, silverpoint was used for outdoor sketching and studies.
One of the unique aspects of silverpoint is that with the passage of time, their silvery gray lines oxidize resulting in a sepia tone. It is a color which is reminiscent of old photographs, and for the artist it is a color which is particularly cogninzant of nostalgia. There is something inherently poetic about the process; with time, the drawings reveal another aspect of themselves, the changing shades reflecting the color of memory, of landscapes past.
