Archipavilion Competition: Exhibition of Winning Designs
THE COMPETITION
“It has been a real pleasure to be involved in judging this award as I believe the pavilion is such an important building in our times. It offers architects the opportunity to work with a form that is relatively spontaneous – allowing a more immediate dialogue with users and an engagement with the public that references ideas about innovation, range and ambition. The more successful proposals had a clarity of purpose and a strong sense of site and function.“
- David Adjaye (OBE), Lead Advisory Judge.
In October 2014, The Artling, an online art gallery and art advisory, and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) as partner organisers launched Asia’s first-of-its-kind architectural design competition for an iconic and modular pavilion with OUE Limited as the Official Title Sponsor.
The competition invited young Singapore-incorporated architectural practices founded in or after 2004 to design an 8,000 sq ft, fully-covered and weather-resilient iconic pavilion space/structure that will house a Contemporary Asian Art exhibition.
Supported by the DesignSingapore Council, with the Financial Times as Official Media Sponsor and Epic PR as Official PR Sponsor, the competition aimed to celebrate the evolution of Singapore’s urbanscapes and initiate a new wave of innovation to define the future of the local built environment.
The entries were judged on design impact, adherence to theme, feasibility, transportability, innovative use of materials and sustainable qualities.
The competition was organised as part of the SG50 activities. For other details about the competition please visit www.theartling.com/pavilion
