Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 Announces Participating Artists

The Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 (BAB 2018), the first biennale in Bangkok, is delighted to announce the complete list of 75 artists who will showcase in this year’s inaugural edition. Artists from 33 countries will explore the theme ‘Beyond Bliss’.

“We live in a present state of fear, protest and delusion. We invite our selected artists to comment on this lack of bliss. Which has been created due to political clashes, disease, pollution and migration. Bliss is a temporary and ephemeral experience, our artists will seek to interpret and capture different variants and intensity.” said Prof. Dr. Apinan Poshyananda, Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Bangkok Art Biennale. 
 

BAB 2018 represents an aspiration for Bangkok to be a major venue in the world of international contemporary art. 

The international contemporary art exhibition will take place across various well-known sites in the city. Including along Bangkok’s principle river, the Chao Phraya River; within ancient temples, including Wat Pho (Temple of Reclining Buddha), Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), and Wat Prayoon (Temple of Iron Fence). Finally, artists will exhibit within historic architectural sites and iconic landmarks: East Asiatic Company building, Oriental Hotel, Oriental Plaza, Bangkok Art and Culture Center,  Bank of Thailand Learning Center, One Bangkok, Central World, Central Embassy, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Alliance Francaise, Lumpini Park, Nai Lert Park Heritage Home, Jam Factory and The Em District.

CEO and president of ThaiBev and Co-founder of the Biennale, Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, added; “We are delighted with the artists that have been brought together by our curatorial team. We believe Bangkok will be a destination for the Thai and international art world to share a memorable experience.”

The artist selection has been submitted by the international advisory committee under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Apinan Poshyananda. The committee is made up of: Alexandra Munroe, Samsung Senior Curator, Asian Art, and Senior Advisor, Global Arts; David Stuart Elliott, British curator and writer; Dr Eugene Tan, Director, National Gallery Singapore; Nanjo Fumio, Director of the Mori Art Museum; Nigel Hurst, CEO, ‎Saatchi Gallery, London; Rirkrit Tiravanija, Artist and Sunjung Kim, President of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation.

Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 will mark Bangkok as one of the world’s cities of art and culture, enhancing the experience of cultural tourism in Thailand for the world to witness.
