On 21 March, KÖNIG GALERIE presented an online virtual exhibition, 'THE ARTIST IS ONLINE. DIGITAL PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES IN A VIRTUAL WORLD', which will run until 21 April 2021. The works in this exhibition were part of the gallery's first NFT auction, which was held from 26 to 31 March 2021. Although it may be unusual for a gallery to initiate its own auction, KÖNIG GALERIE approached this as a unique opportunity in the art market given the emergence of NFTs.

KÖNIG's adaptation to the digital environment and the habits of NFT collectors allowed them to feature 29 unique digital artworks by 22 artists, such as Manuel Rossner, Mario Klingemann, and Addie Wagenknecht. These artists sit among the pioneers in the field of digital art, exploring the possibilities and pushing the boundaries of integrating technology into the production of paintings and sculptures. This exhibition also raises the questions of virtual reality and the mediums of painting and sculpture, and the extent of the role Artificial Intelligence will play in the realm of art.

This exhibition takes KÖNIG's physical exhibition, 'THE ARTIST IS ONLINE. PAINTING AND SCULPTURE IN THE POSTDIGITAL AGE,' to the digital realm.
KÖNIG stands on a piece of rented virtual land and is the first commercial gallery to showcase artworks in Decentraland, a virtual world based on the blockchain. The virtual brutalist architecture of the former St. Agnes church was recreated by Manuel Rossner. The space was designed by Werner Düttmann and Arno Brandlhuber, which was then placed in Decentraland, a virtual world based on blockchain.
