Lucy & Ethel

Lucy & Ethel—these adorable tiny best friend lamps—began their lives as dekselvaasje or lidded vases. One is from 1968 and the other from 1970. They are perfect for those small spaces—bookshelf, mantlepiece, little alcove. Paired with the gorgeous girl, Femke, our other Delft Delvert lamp, they would make a beautiful and unique bedroom or nursery set.

They are one-of-a-kind lamps lovingly handcrafted from vintage, rare, hand-painted Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles) Delvert (green Delft) vases paired with paired with contemporary drum lampshades in antique rose Dupion silk. They are small but have A LOT of personality!

The Delvert line of vases—the word being a contraction of the French word for green (vert) and the city of Delft—was designed by Herman Sanders, a well-known Dutch painter, and is characterized by its distinctive inimitable soft blue-green color and hand-painted floral and geometric motifs, finished with a milky glaze. The series was only produced from 1968-1976 when it was discontinued because of technical problems with the unique colour. So much was lost in the firing process, that it became too expensive to continue with production. While they are from a relatively recent era, they are exceedingly rare.
