Artist statement
Kouyou is a Japanese term that refers to the stunning autumn foliage. The word effectively encapsulates the essence of leaves undergoing a color metamorphosis from green to new spectrum of hues, each one represented by a different tone in the rug’s design. Autumn, being a time of transition, represents a period of change in which the natural world readies itself, prompting individuals to meditate on the transience of life and the beauty of impermanence.
