Artist statement
Echoes is a rug collaboration with local rug label, The Rug Maker, commissioned by Neigborhood.sg. The rug was exhibited alongside other local artists for Creative Unions during Singapore Art Week 2021. The hand tufted rug is made from excess dyed yarns. Colours are matched with excess NZ wool yarns to reduce waste during the dyeing process. Made as a one of a kind artwork, Echoes is based on an abstract collage inspired by the memories we experience. Fragments of memories overlap with one another to compose a symphony of echoes. When we understand our own echoes we may recreate new memories that shape us. Shaping ourselves into a multi-dimensional colourscape that is constantly adapting to ourselves and our environment. The Echoes rug is a soft sculptural piece that symbolises the many facets of the self.
