Artist statement
As Cedar bark has excellent anti-decay properties, it has been used as outdoor building material for roof foundations and fences for a long time. Since my first encounter with Cedar bark as a material, I've been fascinated with its rugged, rough texture, and have wanted to incorporate it into furniture someday. The Yoshino Cypress and Cedar Bark Sideboard Cabinet is the first work of mine to realise this dream.
To my knowledge, it is the first furniture piece that integrates Cedar bark as a material. The Sideboard Cabinet is made from Yoshino Cypress and Cedar bark from the Yoshino mountains. As the bark protects the tree from harsh environments, it has mostly been used for outdoor purposes. By applying this material to indoor furniture and bringing its unique texture into indoor spaces, I hope to bring Yoshino Nature and relaxation into your homes.
