Artist statement
The distinctive, bold -shaped form of the Sawtooth been catching my eye as a drawing in my sketchbook for some time before I finally found the time to make it.
The structure of the Sawtooth is comprised of a baltic birch hardwood plywood frame. The form is then entirely veneered with a full 1/16″ thick maple veneer — not an easy task as the large form had to be entirely inserted into my vacuum press.
After much meticulous sanding and detailing, the table is sprayed with coats of pigmented conversion varnish, an extra hard, two part, lacquer – like product. The chartreuse color is matched to Sherwin Williams’ paint company's “lively yellow”. After this pigmented conversion varnish, the Sawtooth is sprayed with a final protective clear coat.
