Artist statement
CUFFS COULEUR vases made with various shades of colored porcelain and detailed with gold luster. Interior of the void is covered with clear glossy glaze while the exterior remains an unglazed matte porcelain clay body. Design variations of the upper part symbolically shows progression from ‘cuffed’ state (represented by golden trail connecting two openings) to ‘liberation’( represented by open edges). Under the intense heat in the kiln, disconnected edges deform differently each in its own sculptural way. Thinness of the vase walls complement the delicacy of the flower petals.
Vase can be filled with water up to 3”, that is more than enough to feed the flower. Cut-out design offers new possibilities for floral arrangements. This ceramic object can act as a vase for a single flower or a bouquet, while it is sculptural and articulated to be object d’art in and of itself.
